I made it!
I completed this blog entry just before the last day of Chinese New Year is up.
It had been a very enjoyable Chinese New Year, right from the days leading to the actual day up until now.
We wanted our boys to remember their heritage. Hence, we decided to celebrate CNY in a BIG way this year. We believe that we need to set the example, and this should begin at home.
Two weeks prior to CNY, Meow and I conceptualized how we should revamp our house, to give it a festive cheer.
This is our end product!
I roped in Xxm to assist in decorating the house for CNY.
He did his part by creating these art pieces.
This is my impromptu craft work.
I wanted to create a memory during CNY. A family tradition which we can follow and remember for years to come. I designated Meow to write calligraphy style a pair of couplets for the home. I wanted him to convey his well wishes as head of the family. We felt that this is important and a tradition we hope to impart to our children. Although I have never learned Chinese calligraphy, I hoped to do so in the future. Practicing calligraphy helps to cultivate the mind and soul.
I caught Meow secretly practicing his calligraphy skills. I am very thankful for the effort Meow put in to complete his task.
This is his masterpiece. The two verses in the couplet has Meow, Xxm and Xmm’s name in it. I felt that it was very well done although Meow modestly denied.
One of Xxm’s greatest achievement this CNY is to be able to peel a mandarin orange entirely on his own after Meow taught him so. Meow did a marvelous job teaching him that the peeled orange skin can be thrown into the plastic bag wrapping the oranges. So Xxm doesn’t create a terrible mess peeling oranges. The mess comes about when the orange juice starts dripping from his hand and mouth while eating.
This is Day Two of CNY. Father and son are decked out in similar outfits. Meow had his well stored and vacuum packed many years back. However seeing Xxm in his CNY gear that morning made him spend the next hour searching for his as well. Haha, I didn’t realize my husband was such a vain pot!
By the way, if you find that Meow appears dazed. That’s because he was already drunk in this picture. He usually holds his liqueur really well. I could tell he enjoyed the CNY gathering with some close friends immensely.
That’s how we spent our CNY this year. Till next year! Happy dragon year ahead!!!
I invested a little more than usual on my CNY nails this year and I’m loving it so … So……. MUCH!
